Evosys Laser GmbH from Erlangen is winner of the first main prize of this year’s Bavarian Innovation Award. The award is presented every two years by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, the Bavarian Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Crafts. The jury was impressed by the innovative and patented AQW process.

The Erlangen-based company develops and manufactures laser welding systems for processing plastics. These are used, for example, in the automotive, medical technology or consumer product industries. Laser welding of plastics is an established and widely used manufacturing process. It is valued above all for its reliability, cleanliness and cost-effectiveness.

Now EVOSYS has been awarded the Bavarian Innovation Award, specifically in the category of 1st main prize. The aim of the award is to recognize particularly successful innovations by Bavarian companies. Among nearly 200 top-class innovations, the jury found the patented AQW laser welding process from Evosys Laser GmbH particularly worthy of the award.

The new variant of laser welding of plastics combines two laser beam sources and wavelengths. “This approach is aimed in particular at significantly reducing welding times and extending the process window in quasi-simultaneous welding,” explains Lea Sauerwein, responsible development engineer at EVOSYS. By using two different wavelengths, the input of radiant energy and heat can be better controlled. This enables a more reliable and faster welding process.

The award ceremony took place on Monday, November 21, 2022 at the Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Augsburg. The Bavarian Minister of Economic Affairs, Hubert Aiwanger, personally congratulated the winners and awarded them the coveted prize.

“We consider the Bavarian Innovation Award as a great recognition for our efforts in research and development, especially under the challenging general conditions of the last years”, Frank Brunnecker and Holger Aldebert, managing directors of Evosys Laser GmbH, are pleased to say.
