Innovationspreis Bayern 2022

Evosys Laser has received three prestigious innovation awards in the past three months. In November, the company received the 1st main prize of the prestigious Bavarian Innovation Award. This was followed shortly afterwards by the Best of Industry Award in the plastics technology category. This triple is completed by the award of the TOP 100 Seal 2023.

All three awards are presented only to particularly innovative companies that increase customer benefits with technical innovations. In particular, the new, patented AQW process of Evosys Laser GmbH convinced the juries in the competitions.

Evosys Laser GmbH from Erlangen is the winner of the first main prize of this year’s Bavarian Innovation Award. The award is presented every two years by the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Industry and Commerce and the Association of Bavarian Chambers of Crafts. The aim of the award is to honor particularly successful innovations by Bavarian companies. Among nearly 200 top-class innovations, the jury found the patented AQW laser welding process of Evosys Laser GmbH particularly worthy of the award. The award ceremony took place on Monday, November 21, 2022 at the Swabian Chamber of Industry and Commerce in Augsburg.

Shortly afterwards, on December 12, 2022, Evosys Laser GmbH was presented with the Best of Industry Award in the plastics technology category. The award is presented annually by MM MaschinenMarkt together with the trade journals PROCESS, LABORPRAXIS and DeviceMed. Since 2016, the Best of Industry Award has been answering the questions of which solutions stand out from the crowd and offer real added value. A pre-selection by experts is followed by a vote by readers. After five months of voting, during which almost 20,000 votes were cast, Evosys Laser GmbH came out on top in the plastics technology category with its patented AQW laser welding process (Advanced Quasi-Simultaneous Welding). The award ceremony took place online on Monday, December 12, 2022, and can be viewed at any time at www.bestofindustry.de.

To complete the series, Evosys Laser GmbH has now also been awarded the TOP 100 2023 seal, making the company one of Germany’s top innovators since February 1. The competition is based on a scientific selection process. Innovation researcher Prof. Dr. Nikolaus Franke of the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and his team examined the company on the basis of more than 100 criteria from five categories: Innovation-promoting top management, innovation climate, innovative processes and organization, external orientation/open innovation, and innovation success. It is particularly important that a company’s ideas are not just a product of chance, but are systematically planned and thus repeatable in the future. The TOP 100 Innovation Competition has now been held for the 30th time. The comparison is primarily concerned with the question of how important the innovation goal is within the company. Do routines and habits dominate, or is the company capable of questioning the existing, thinking creatively and in new ways. “We promote speedy decision-making processes and uncomplicated interaction among employees – this simplifies communication and allows ideas to emerge.” This is how the two EVOSYS managing directors Frank Brunnecker and Holger Aldebert describe their patent recipe. The award ceremony will take place on June 23 in Augsburg as part of the German SME Summit. The mentor will be science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar.

AQW process brief portrait

The patented AQW process (Advanced Quasi-Simultaneous Welding) is a new variant of laser welding of plastics in which two laser beam sources and wavelengths are combined. In particular, it aims to significantly reduce welding times and extend the process window in quasi-simultaneous welding. By using two different wavelengths, the input of beam energy and heat can be better controlled. It leads to a considerable increase in efficiency, and selected plastics can be processed even more economically.
