Students develop concepts for new EVOSYS clamping technology
As a specialist for laser welding of plastics, we have long maintained intensive contacts with research institutions. The active promotion of students and young technical talents is our motto here. In a project with the OTH Regensburg, we recently assigned a complex design task and have now awarded prizes to the best work.
As part of a project work together with the Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg (OTH Regensburg), we had called for both the conception and the CAD design of a universal clamping device in the subject "Application Design" in the past winter semester. Our specific task was "Development of a universal clamping technology for laser transmission welding of plastic components with complex geometries", this was developed and implemented by the students in a practical way.
The resulting concepts have now been evaluated with regard to the fulfillment of required functions, reliability and costs, and were duly awarded prizes during a joint video conference on January 27. The creative ideas and solution approaches of the aspiring engineers now give us new momentum to improve our range of products and services. We will continue to pursue some of these innovative approaches and look forward to continuing this constructive form of cooperation.
Clamping technology plays an important role in our EVOSYS laser systems, as it fixes the joining partners to be welded. Normally, a separate clamping tool has to be manufactured for each component, which leads to higher fixed costs, especially for small batches. However, such small batches are becoming increasingly common in today's industrial production. EVOSYS was looking for an optimal solution not only to facilitate the handling of the clamping tool, but also to reduce its manufacturing costs.
